Privacy Policy

TechOwl ("we", "us", "our") operates the TechOwl 360 mobile application (the "App"), a cybersecurity news, training, and quiz app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the App you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information we collect

a) Information you provide

• Account details: name and email address when you sign up with email/password or with Google Sign-In. Passwords are never stored by the App in plain text.
• Profile details: optional information you add, such as phone number, country code, preferred language, and notification time.
• Content preferences: topics you follow, articles you save or bookmark, and quiz activity (scores, streaks) — used to personalize your feed and track progress.

b) Information collected automatically

• Device & technical data: device model, operating system version, app version, and language, used to operate and troubleshoot the App.
• Advertising identifier: the Google Advertising ID (AAID), used to serve and measure ads through Google AdMob (see Section 4).
• Push notification token: a device messaging token, so we can deliver notifications you have enabled (see Section 5).
• Usage data: basic interactions (e.g. articles opened, ads viewed/clicked) to operate features and measure ad performance.

We do not knowingly collect precise location, contacts, photos, or biometric data.

2. How we use your information

We use the information to:

• create and manage your account and keep you signed in securely;
• deliver and personalize the news feed, training videos, and quizzes;
• show and measure advertising (house ads and Google AdMob);
• send notifications you have opted into (e.g. breaking security news);
• maintain security, prevent abuse, and comply with law;
• improve and troubleshoot the App.

3. Legal bases (where applicable, e.g. GDPR)

We process personal data to perform our contract with you (providing the App), based on your consent (ads personalization and notifications), for our legitimate interests (security, product improvement), and to comply with legal obligations.

4. Advertising

The App shows ads, including our own "house" ads and ads served by Google AdMob. AdMob may use the advertising identifier and limited device data to serve and measure ads. Depending on your region and consent, ads may be personalized or non-personalized.

• We present a consent choice where required (e.g. EEA/UK) via Google's User Messaging Platform. You can change ad-consent choices at any time in the App settings, where available.

5. Notifications

If you enable notifications, we register a device messaging token to deliver alerts (e.g. breaking news, quiz reminders). On Android 13+ and iOS the system will ask for your permission first. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings or in the App.

6. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:

• Service providers that operate the App on our behalf (e.g. Google for sign-in, advertising, and push delivery), under contractual confidentiality;
• Authorities, where required by law or to protect rights and safety.

7. Data retention

We keep account information while your account is active. When you delete your account (available in the App), we delete or anonymize your personal data, except where we must retain it to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations.

8. Your rights

Depending on your region, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to withdraw consent. You can:

• edit your profile in the App;
• delete your account from the App settings, which removes your data;
• contact us at the email below for any request.

9. Security

We protect your data with measures including encrypted storage of the session token on your device (OS keystore/keychain), HTTPS with certificate pinning for network traffic, and code hardening. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.

10. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

11. International transfers

Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country. We take steps to ensure appropriate safeguards for such transfers.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date. Material changes may be notified in the App.
